HIDEOUS SEXY and WAGNER THE WEREWOLF now available!

Penny Dreadful Books has posted two new titles for sale today: HIDEOUS SEXY and WAGNER THE WEREWOLF

HIDEOUS SEXY is a collection of lurid pulp stories from the 1930s and 1940s - the Golden Age of pulp fiction. Stories include Bride of the Ape, Fresh Fiances for the Devil's Daughter, Blood Bait for Hungry Mermaids and 13 other sordid tales.

WAGNER THE WEREWOLF represents the compiled exploits of one Fernand Wagner, a bitter old man visited on a stormy night by the legendary Dr. Faust. As in Faust's own tale, Wagner is made a tempting offer - renewed youth, intelligence and unlimited wealth. All he has to do is agree to accompany him for a time ... and to become a werewolf.
When Wagner agrees, his youth is restored at a horrible price. on the last day of each month he becomes a mindless beast, part animal and part man. after realizing the error of his decision he begins a quest to find a cure. But Satan has a solution of his own for Wagner's condition ....

Varney the Vampire: Vol 2 & MySpace

The second volume of Varney the Vampire is now available, but it will be a few more days until it is listed for sale at Amazon. If you're one of the folks (like me) who absolutely can't wait to read it, you can buy it directly from the publisher at this link.

Vol. 2 is a whopping 600 pages, about twice the size of the first volume. I expect the third (and final) volume of Varney to be about 600 pages, as well.

Meanwhile, Penny Dreadful Books has a listing at MySpace, which you can find by clicking here.

Varney the Vampire RETURNS

Hey, all.

The second volume of Varney the Vampire is progressing quickly. The first proof has been built and the cover designed, with just a few small details left to be completed. Vol. 2 covers chapters 51 to 130 and clocks in at 600 pages. I expect Vol. 3 — the final volume in the series — to be just as long.

I hope those of you who bought Vol. 1 enjoyed it as much as we did. Varney proved to be a pleasant surprise for me: equal parts Blackadder and Dark Shadows, I'd love to see this made into a movie. It's hard not to imagine Stephen Fry as the Admiral.

I've built these books to be convenient reads. Those of us who occasionally dip into vintage fiction can attest that so-called classic literature is often typeset to squeeze as many words as possible into as few pages as possible. I've seen editions of The Complete Works of Edgar Allen Poe that should have been accompanied with magnifying glasses (or microscopes.)

Not so for our Penny dreadful books. We try to keep prices as low as possible, so buying all three volumes of our Varney series shouldn't cost you much more than buying a massive edition. And our books won't wreck your vision.

But before the next edition of Varney the Vampire is released, expect to see an anthology of short stories by Robert W. Chambers. He's a writer I was introduced to through Blue Oyster Cult (the "king in yellow" mentioned in their song ETI refers to Chambers' most creepy creation.)

Look for them soon.
